Rhinocerous Hornbill in Flight, Sepilok

The rhinocerous hornbills are seen throughout the primary forests of Borneo. They are heavily hunted for theeir feathers which are used in traditional ceremonies. Hornbills mate for life and are often seen in pairs. They can be quite loud which is how Rob and I found this pair right at the lodge in Sepilok. The rest of our group had gone off to the forest to see what they could see--we had stayed back to rest for a bit. We followed the sound of the hornbills and were able to spend about an hour with them while they ate fruits and berries in a large tree. I felt so fortunate to have gotten a good shot of this female (identified by its blue eye) in flight.
